DoodlePet turns kids' hand-drawn creatures into interactive cartoon characters they can name, customize, and play with on iPhone and iPad.
Full Description
Complete app description
DoodlePet is an iOS app that transforms children's hand-drawn creatures into animated characters. Kids photograph their drawings, choose colors and personality traits, and watch as AI brings their sketches to life in seconds.
Each creature becomes a pet that lives in its own room with a framed picture of the original drawing. Kids can tap their pets to make them react, or drag multiple pets onto Zoo scenes where they wiggle and interact when they meet.
DoodlePet was built by a dad for his 8-year-old son, who folded a piece of paper into a phone and invented an imaginary app called "pet.com." Every feature was designed with real kids ages 6-11 who tested the app and told the developer what they wanted.
Story Angles
Key narrative hooks for journalists
๐จ The Origin Story
A dad's 8-year-old son folded paper into a "phone" and drew an app called "pet.com." The dad decided to make it real before his son grew out of this creative phase.
๐ถ Built With Kids
Every feature came from real kids ages 6-11 who tested prototypes and told the developer what they wanted. The Zoo Canvas exists because a kid asked "what if they could play together?"
๐ฐ Honest Pricing
Each transformation costs $0.33 in API fees. The developer is asking parents to help offset costs, not go broke sharing this. No subscription trap, no ads.
๐ Privacy-First
COPPA-compliant, no accounts, no tracking. All data stays on device. Drawings are sent to OpenAI for transformation, then deleted.
๐ Solo Dev Story
One developer with a full-time job, building nights and weekends. No team, no VC funding, no corporate playbook โ just a dad keeping a promise to his kid.
โฐ Racing Time
"My son is 8. In a few years, he won't draw creatures anymore. I'm capturing this version of him before I lose it to teenage years."

"My son folded a piece of paper into a phone and invented an app. I made it real for him."
"I'm not a professional app developer. I just wanted to give my son his game โ the app he invented with folded paper and imagination โ before he grows up and stops doing that."
"Each transformation costs me $0.33. I'm asking parents to help offset the cost โ not go broke sharing this with kids."
"A corporate team can clone the features. But they can't clone the paper phone my son folded."
